Completed at the end of 2018, this spectacular 4-bed family home is our biggest project to date – both in size but also in spec. The clients purchased a dated bungalow on a level plot in a much sought after location just outside of Exeter. The existing building was demolished, the ground levelled and work on the new home began in October 2017.
Everything in this build has been carefully designed, both by the architects http://www.barcarchitects.com and a team of interior designers. The end result is absolutely stunning. A contemporary home that makes the most of its location along a busy lane with uninterrupted river views. It is generously sized with plenty of space to entertain friends and for family gatherings, yet because of its designated zones it never feels too large for the permanent residents.
The house has been highly insulated to keep heating costs to a minimum, and has a beautiful hanging wood stove to top up on colder days. The ground floor has a limestone floor and porcelain tiles with underfloor heating throughout.
All lighting, heating, the ventilation system (MVHR), audio systems and home cinema can be managed via a remote control.
Cedar louvres keep the sun off the upstairs windows, reducing the solar gain in the upper bedrooms.
The outside of the building has been clad in either brick slips, cedar panelling or zinc, creating a timeless look that will only get better with age.
